Charity Champion 2008

Each year we nominate someone who has shown passion for the work we do and has raised significant sums of money to rescue children facing the most serious injustices. This year we had two amazing candidates so much so that we decided that they should both be our 2008 Charity Champions. Our first Charity Champion is Olive Emptage. Olive has supported Jubilee Action since it was founded. She made a life changing trip to India in the late 80s, where she saw many street children roaming the railways and wandering along main roads. Incensed by the poverty and desperation, she vowed to do something about it. Hearing of Jubilee Action, Olive began to campaign on our behalf and also to encourage people in her church to give her their small change so that she could pass it on to Jubilee Action. In Olive’s church – Crofton Park Baptist Church - Jubilee Action’s children are widely known as Olive’s children. Many members of the congregation have faithfully donated since the early 90’s. Olive has shown amazing commitment. We are so grateful for all she has done. Our second is Jane Skivington; she tells us in her own words her Jubilee Action story:
I have been involved with fund raising for Jubilee Action so long that I cannot remember how I started. I have always had a heart for street children and I think it stemmed from there. Six years ago my friend Jan’s son died tragically. We decided to fund raise to build a house in the peace village, in Rwanda for an orphan family. Sadly Jan died in May 2008 before we completed the fundraising but thanks to one very generous sponsor and our fundraising we have now managed to raise enough money for two houses. It has been such a comfort to both her family and us as friends that something positive has come out of these sad events. I am grateful for the encouragement and help of everybody at Jubilee Action, who have been such a support all the way through. All the team at Jubilee Action want to say thank you to Jane, Olive and all our friends at Crofton Park Baptist Church. Our work is sustained by such incredible support.
