Sussex Christian Union have been fundraising over the past year for us. Here’s their president, Matt Carvel, explaining why: “This year, Sussex Christian Union decided to raise money for a charity as we wanted to make a difference on a global scale, as well impacting our campus and our city in Jesus’ name. We found out about Jubilee Action through a church contact of a student in our CU. Jubilee Action is a charity that we realise would be great to support for a number of reasons. Firstly it was a Christian charity, and this biblical root was very important to us since we are a Christian missional group ourselves. Secondly, because it is a human rights charity, the work of Jubilee Action is something we knew that the rest of our university would be interested in supporting. Sussex University is a very socially aware place with many students studying development studies, anthropology, politics and international relations. The work that Jubilee Action does worldwide helps children and families who are in desperate need. Students were eager to raise money and make a difference to these people’s lives through supporting Jubilee. We were so pleased to have members of Jubilee Action come to our university and do a presentation explaining exactly what they do in many countries around the world. They also supplied us with DVDs, magazines and flyers. Knowing the kind of work the money raised would be used for gave us a determination to wholeheartedly support Jubilee and also made us able to explain to other students about why we were raising money and what it was going towards. We very much hope to continue our relationship with Jubilee Action and raise more money in the years to come for the work that they do.” Matt Carvel: University of Sussex Christian Union. |
