Words from our Partner Pastor Timothy, working with the Karen refugees in the disaster zone, in urgent need of aid.
“Once again we have heard of the tragic news of yet another natural disaster in Burma, with the Cyclone Nargis hitting the south Andaman Sea islands of the Irrawaddy Delta area of the Karen State, right up the Pegu Division. The whole districts of Lapuda and Pyanpun in the South Andaman Sea has been totally wiped out. There are one million homeless, including in the city of Rangoon, with nowhere to go.
Most of the population in this area is Karen. The Irrawaddy Delta used to be the rice bowl of Asia. Due to the raging devastation, over 22,000 people have already died, with the death toll continuing to rise and approx. 41,000 are still missing.
The situation is hopelessly dark, dead bodies are floating everywhere, with no signs of compassion arriving anytime soon. The capital city of Rangoon itself has become a disaster zone. There is no electricity and telecommunications has totally cut off.
The hardships they already face would make any ordinary man buckle and be crushed under the burden. Now with this massive natural disaster, it is almost like hell on earth for the people of Burma.
Amidst this massive disaster, there are a few Christian believers inside who are giving whatever they have to assist the ones who are suffering. It is only a drop of water in the whole ocean.
We will be traveling to the disaster zone to join with the local believers.
Please pray for us, for the funds needed to bring with us to assist the people with drinking water, plastic sheeting, dried and staple foods, and medical supplies. Our team will also be accompanied by the medical professionals. We will be all working together to bring the Hope of Jesus and the Love of Christ from our Christian Brothers around the world, whose hearts go out to the people of Burma.
Our mission is not to go and assess the devastation and death toll, but to bring practical means of help and hope to the people.”
If we could raise £20,000 as an initial step of assistance, we can at least provide essential aid where it is most needed and then continue to give aid as it is provided.
Our partners at ATM are one of the very few Christian ministries that the authorities in Burma trust and given favour through giving access to the disaster zone.
“Whatever help that we are be able muster may be a drop in the bucket, but praying with the families who are in severe shock, grieving and mentally affected, just being there with them in their time of need bringing them the Hope and Love of Christ, and the gift of Gospel through Jesus Christ is greater than anything we could offer materialistically.

“If the help is not quick to come, the aftermath of this disaster such as disease, contaminated water, diahorrea will take a greater toll on the survivors than the lives that have already been lost.”
Sincerely in Christ,

PASTORS TIMOTHY AND REBECCA
Thank you.
