Haiti: Stories from Port-au-Prince - 25/02/2011 15:31

Our partners, Outreach International, support a network of over 90 schools in Haiti. Following 2010's devastating earthquake, 1/3 of these schools were damaged or completely destroyed. In response, our partners launched a scheme to rebuild them with Article 25, an organisation specialising in post-disaster architectural and engineering in developing countries. Unfortunately, as we were about to begin building, Haiti was plagued with even more disasters. Hurricane Tomas brought further devastation to Haiti's buildings and was followed shortly afterwards by the cholera epidemic. In a string of what seems like unending back luck, building work had to be further curtailed for When the work is completed it promises to continue making a great difference to the lives of many young people: Molita* is 16. Her mother couldn't afford the fees of schools near their home, so Molita moved to live with her aunt and cousin in Port-au-Prince.
