Peter's story - 09/04/2010 15:18
I’d like to share with you a wonderful story about Peter, whose life has been transformed because of our supporters. Peter lives in Patongo, in northern Uganda, where we are building our Youth Centre. He is 17 years old and has three sisters and one brother. Their parents were killed by the Lord’s Resistance Army five years ago, and he has been struggling to support his younger siblings ever since. Peter left primary school in order to be the parent to his siblings. He did basic manual work for which he was paid the equivalent of 30p per day. It was hard, made even harder by the fact that they were homeless, squatting in dilapidated and dangerous accommodation. We found out a while ago that his parents had owned land in Patongo, but it had been appropriated by others when his parents were killed. We found a way to buy How wonderful that we were able to buy Peter his land back. But the reason we were able to do this is because of the monthly regular gifts that some of our supporters make to Jubilee Action. These monthly gifts are worth much more than the amount donated. They enable us to make promises to people like Peter, in the full knowledge that the income needed to fulfil the promise is guaranteed. To put it another way, it is a simple commitment that punches way above its weight. £10 a month could pay for trauma counselling and rehabilitation for a former child soldier. £25 a month could pay for protection and support for child headed households like Peter. £50 a month could sponsor 10 former child soldiers to become mechanics. Please will you consider making a regular gift, and support children like Peter? You would make such a difference to Simply click here to donate >> or call us on 01483 230250....
